Chapter 5 - The War for the Crown

The peace they had built was violently threatened two weeks before Clara’s graduation.
The rogue faction responsible for the attack in the alley—led by a bitter rival named Marcus Kane—realized that Julian’s only true vulnerability was the young nursing student he loved.
On a foggy evening, as Clara was leaving the NYU medical library, two armored vans cut off her escort vehicle.
A fierce gunfight erupted in the streets. Elena, Clara’s bodyguard, fought bravely, pulling Clara into a secure brownstone vestibule while calling for immediate backup.
Inside the penthouse, Julian’s phone rang.
"Vance," Marcus Kane’s voice sneered through the speaker. "We have your little nurse pinned down on 12th Street. Surrender your shipping terminals, or she doesn't make it to graduation."
The air in Julian’s office went completely dead. The gray in his eyes turned into liquid ice.
"Marcus," Julian said, his voice dropping into a register of quiet, terrifying absolute fury. "You just committed the final mistake of your life."
Julian didn't send a warning. He launched an all-out, relentless strike.
Within twenty minutes, Julian arrived on 12th Street flanked by twenty armored vehicles and his most elite security forces. The night shattered with precision tactical fire as Julian’s men completely neutralized Kane’s mercenaries.
Julian walked through the heavy fog himself, holding a suppressed firearm, his face carved from stone. He found Marcus Kane cowering behind an armored SUV, wounded and bleeding.
Julian stood over him like a dark god of vengeance.
"Please, Vance!" Kane whimpered, holding up his hands. "It was just business!"
"Touching Clara is not business," Julian said coldly. "It is a death sentence."
A single shot rang out into the fog.
Julian turned around without looking back, dropping his weapon to Dominic, and ran into the brownstone vestibule where Clara was waiting.
The moment she saw him, Clara broke away from Elena and threw herself into his arms. Julian caught her, lifting her off her feet, holding her against his heart as if he would never let her go again.
"Are you hurt?!" Julian gasped, checking her face and arms with frantic care. "Tell me, Clara!"

"I'm okay, Julian!" Clara wept, kissing his cheeks, his jaw, his lips. "I'm okay! You came for me!"
"Always," Julian promised, burying his face in her neck, his body shaking with profound relief. "I will always come for you."
