Chapter 6 - A Vow in the Light

ONE YEAR LATER

The ocean breeze blew gently across the coastal cliffs of Big Sur, California, carrying the fresh scent of wild pine and ocean salt.

Standing on the wooden terrace of a private seaside estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean were seventy close friends, company employees, and medical staff. White roses decorated the alter, and soft harp music floated through the warm afternoon air.

Thea stood at the edge of the altar in a breathtaking lace wedding dress, holding a bouquet of gardenias and white roses.

Standing across from her, wearing a sharp black tuxedo, was Lachlan Voss. His gray-blue eyes were bright, clear, and filled with an overwhelming, radiant joy as he held both of her hands in his.

Standing in the front row, looking healthy and beautiful in a plum-colored dress, was Thea’s mother, wiping tears of happiness from her eyes.

The officiant smiled warmly at the couple. "Lachlan, you may read your vows."

Lachlan took a deep breath, looking directly into Thea’s eyes.

"One year ago, Thea," Lachlan began, his deep voice carrying easily over the sound of the ocean waves, "I sat in a dark room pretending I couldn't see the world around me. I thought my life was defined by betrayal, deception, and cold revenge. And then you walked into my room in a borrowed wedding dress."

The guests smiled warmly, listening intently.

"You showed me that light isn't something you see with your eyes," Lachlan continued, his voice trembling with deep emotion. "It’s something you feel when you find the person who stands beside you in the dark. You saved my life, you saved my heart, and today, in front of everyone who loves us, I promise to spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to fight alone again."

Tears of pure happiness welled up in Thea’s eyes as she smiled at him.

"Thea, your vows," the officiant said gently.

Thea squeezed Lachlan's hands tightly. "Lachlan, when I married you a year ago, I thought I was making a sacrifice to save my mother. I didn't know that I was walking toward the greatest blessing of my life. You saw me when I felt invisible, you protected me when I was weak, and you loved me when I had nothing to give you but my truth."

She leaned in closer, her voice filled with absolute conviction. "I choose you today, tomorrow, and for every day that follows. Not because of a contract, but because my soul belongs to yours."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant announced with a beaming smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Lachlan, you may kiss your bride."

Lachlan didn't wait a single second. He wrapped his arms around Thea’s waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, and pulled her into a deep, passionate, and breathtaking kiss under the golden afternoon sunlight.

The crowd erupted into loud, joyful applause, cheering and throwing white rose petals into the air.

Lachlan set her back down gently, looking down into her radiant face with a love so deep it lit up the entire coast.

"I can see you clearly now, Mrs. Voss," Lachlan whispered with a breathtaking smile.

"And what do you see, Mr. Voss?" Thea asked softly, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I see my entire future," Lachlan answered softly, kissing her lips once more as the sun set gloriously over the ocean horizon.
