Chapter 5 - THE AMBUSH AT THE HARBOR

Two weeks later, the final storm broke over Boston.

Through his international contacts, Dominic had verified the documents. Elena had been located in South America, but she wasn't acting alone. She had aligned herself with a rogue faction of the New York syndicate, using her stolen millions to orchestrate a full takeover of Dominic’s shipping docks in Boston harbor.

They were moving tonight.

A heavy, thick fog hung over the harbor as three black sedans rolled quietly onto Pier 42.

I sat in the backseat of Dominic’s armored SUV, holding Lily and Leo close to my sides. I had begged Dominic to let us stay at the estate, but he had insisted on keeping us with his heavy tactical escort—with the New York syndicate in town, the estate was no longer safe.

"Stay inside the vehicle," Marco instructed from the front seat, checking his submachine gun. "The glass is B7 bulletproof. Nothing gets through."

Outside, forty yards away in the foggy shadows of an abandoned brick warehouse, Dominic stood surrounded by twenty of his most loyal men.

Standing across from him under the yellow halogen lights of the dock was a woman wearing an expensive white mink coat.

Elena Moretti.

Even through the tinted windows and heavy fog, I could see her face—strikingly beautiful, with cold, calculated blue eyes that held no warmth whatsoever. Beside her stood Matteo Castiglione and ten heavy New York enforcers.

"You look older, Dominic," Elena’s sharp voice carried across the quiet harbor through the damp air.

Dominic stood tall, his long dark coat billowing slightly in the cold ocean breeze. He looked at his former wife with complete, icy detachment.

"Where is the money, Elena?" Dominic asked, his tone completely flat.

"Spent," Elena smirked, pulling a long cigarette from a gold case. "Some on real estate in Argentina, some on hiring Matteo's leftover men to finish what we started two years ago. You were always too cautious, Dominic. You kept millions sitting in shipping crates when we could have owned the whole East Coast!"

"You left your six-year-old son in that car," Dominic said, taking a slow step forward.

Elena shrugged callously, blowing a cloud of white smoke into the fog. "Leo was a weak, quiet brat. He was always crying for attention. He would have held me back."

Inside the SUV, I quickly covered Leo’s ears, pulling his head into my chest, my heart breaking with pure rage.

On the dock, Dominic stopped. A cold, terrifying smile spread across his lips.

"Thank you," Dominic said quietly.

Elena frowned, her eyes narrowing. "For what?"

"For making me realize that the worst mistake of my life wasn't losing you," Dominic replied smoothly. "It was ever believing you were worth grieving for."

Dominic raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

BOOM!

High above us on the crane towers, bright industrial spotlights suddenly ignited, blinding Elena and her men with thousands of watts of white light.

From every corner of the warehouse, dozens of Dominic’s men emerged from the shadows—not just Boston guards, but allied enforcers from Chicago and Philadelphia whom Dominic had quietly brought into the city three days ago.

Matteo Castiglione gasped, raising his weapon, but before he could fire, Marco pressed a remote button inside our SUV.

A loud mechanical lock engaged as Dominic’s snipers opened fire with terrifying precision.

The harbor erupted into chaos—gunfire echoing like thunder off the ocean water, muzzle flashes lighting up the fog.

Elena screamed, dropping her cigarette, trying to run toward a waiting speedboat tied to the dock.

Dominic didn't fire a single shot. He walked calmly through the chaos, dodging the crossfire with unhurried authority, catching Elena by the collar of her white mink coat just as she reached the edge of the pier.

He yanked her back, pinning her against a heavy iron container crate.

"It's over, Elena," Dominic said, his voice cold enough to freeze the ocean water beneath them. "You're going to spend the rest of your life in a dark cell in Italy where no one will ever hear your name again."
