Chapter 6 - The Promise of Tomorrow

One year later.

The morning sun cast a bright, golden glow over the private estate garden in Brooklyn Heights. The shattered glass had long been replaced, the violence cleared away, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming white roses and honeysuckle.

On the lawn, four-year-old Leo was running happily around a large wooden playground, laughing wildly as he chased a small golden retriever puppy.

Clara stood on the stone patio, wearing a simple, elegant ivory silk dress. Her dark hair was pinned up softly, her skin radiant with health and complete happiness.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

Rico pulled her back against his broad, solid chest, resting his chin on her shoulder, looking out at his son’s laughter. He was dressed in a casual linen shirt, looking younger, lighter, and completely at peace.

Following the attack, Rico had systematically dismantled the Luciano syndicate, forcing a permanent peace treaty across the five boroughs that ensured his family would never be threatened again. He had stepped back from the violent street operations, turning the Moretti empire into a legitimate global logistics enterprise.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Rico asked softly, kissing the side of her neck.

Clara turned in his arms, smiling up into his dark eyes, sliding her hands up to rest on his chest—right over the small, gold wedding band that matched the one on her own finger.

"I was thinking about Il Stellino," Clara admitted with a soft laugh. "About the night I dropped a plate of truffle risotto and shouted at the most dangerous man in New York."

Rico smiled—a warm, breathtaking smile that lit up his handsome face. He reached up, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"You didn't shout, little bird," Rico murmured lovingly. "You spoke the truth. You saved my son from a life of fear, and you saved me from a life of ice."

"Look at him, Rico," Clara whispered, looking over at Leo, who was now waving at them from the top of the wooden slide. "He's happy."

"We are all happy, Mrs. Moretti," Rico declared softly.

He pulled her close, lifting her chin, and kissed her deeply under the warm morning sun—a kiss that carried the promise of a peaceful, beautiful, and everlasting future together.
