Chapter 8 - The Legal Firestorm

"This isn't over!" Preston roared, his face twisting into a mask of desperate rage as security began escorting him and his father out of the boardroom. "I'll sue you! I'll take you to international court! You kidnapped my children! I'll break you, Lena! I'll take everything you have!"
Three hours later, Preston was sitting in the cramped office of a mid-tier Manhattan attorney—the only lawyer he could afford after exhausting his retainer funds.
"We have to file an emergency custody injunction!" Preston demanded, slamming his fist on the desk. "She took my kids out of the country without my permission!"
The lawyer, an exhausted man named Miller, rubbed his temples and flipped through the thick stack of divorce documents Preston had provided.
Miller let out a long, heavy sigh.
"Mr. Hale," Miller said flatly. "Did you read Page 14 of your signed divorce decree?"
"I don't care about Page 14!" Preston yelled. "I was misled!"
"It doesn't matter if you were misled," Miller snapped back. "You signed a binding, court-certified agreement with full legal representation present. Clause B explicitly states: 'The father, Preston Hale, voluntarily relinquishes all decision-making authority, visitation rights, and physical custody, granting mother Lena Hartwell sole, unappealable legal guardianship and full international relocation autonomy without requirement of further notice.'"
Miller slammed the folder shut.
"Furthermore," Miller continued, "Mrs. Hartwell's legal team has already filed a preemptive protection order in the High Court of London and the Swiss Federal Court. If you step foot within five hundred meters of your daughters, you will be arrested on sight for international harassment."
Preston buried his head in his hands, his body shaking with soundless sobs. "There has to be a way... there has to be..."
"There is no way," Miller said coldly. "You signed your kids away so you could marry another woman. No judge on earth is going to grant custody to a broke, bankrupt man with a history of documented verbal abandonment against a mother who is a multi-millionaire executive with full legal custody."
While Preston sat in that dark, cramped office realizing his legal helplessness, the news broken across the financial markets.
Vance Global Capital officially announced the complete rejection of Hale Enterprises’ asset portfolio, labeling the firm's debt structure as "unviable and poorly managed."
