Chapter 11 - QUEEN OF THE EMPIRE

Six months later.
The spring sun shone brilliant and warm over Lake Michigan, painting the waters in shimmering shades of turquoise and gold.
The Drake Hotel ballroom was filled once again with five hundred of the most influential figures in the country—senators, foreign ambassadors, shipping magnates, and the unified capos of the Chicago High Council.
But today, there were no whispers of scandal. No predators waiting to watch a broken wife bleed.
Today was the formal coronation of the Moretti-Vale Conglomerate.
I stood before the full-length mirror in the bridal suite, adjusting the cuffs of my bespoke ivory silk gown. On my right hand was no jewelry at all—no chains, no branding, no ancestral curses.
The door opened softly.
Dante walked in, looking devastatingly handsome in his custom midnight-blue tuxedo. He had a small, velvet jewelry box in his hand.
He stopped behind me, his reflection meeting mine in the glass. His arms circled my waist, pulling my back gently against his broad chest, his lips brushing the soft curve of my neck.
"Are you ready, Queen?" he murmured, his voice rich with pride and boundless love.
"More than ready," I smiled, turning in his embrace to face him. "What is that?"
Dante opened the velvet box. Inside rested a simple, breathtaking band forged of pure platinum, set with a single, flawless emerald—the color of spring, life, and a new beginning.
"No ciphers," Dante said, looking deep into my eyes with a tenderness that still took my breath away every single day. "No hidden trusts. No syndicate clauses. Just a promise from a man who will spend the rest of his life standing behind you when you lead, beside you when you fight, and at your feet when you rule."
A tear of pure happiness slipped down my cheek. I held out my left hand—the hand that had once been bruised and locked in a sapphire cage.
"Put it on me, Dante," I whispered.
He slid the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly, light as a feather, warm as a flame.

Outside, the grand ballroom doors opened, and the applause thundered through the palace of marble and crystal.
Hand in hand, Dante and I walked out into the light to claim our sovereign throne together.
