Chapter 4 - The Tearing of the Corporate Veil

Vanessa’s hands trembled slightly as she stepped toward the coffee table. Her defiance faltered under the unblinking, heavy weight of my gaze. She snatched the manila folder off the wood and tore the flap open, spilling a cascade of legal documents, bank statements, and corporate asset registries across the glass surface.

She scanned the top page, her eyes widening in horror. The corporate seal at the top of the document bore the name Vanguard Holdings, alongside my full legal signature as Chairman and CEO—not Arthur Vance, the retired retiree she loved to mock behind his back, but Arthur Vance-Montgomery, a name well-known in international commercial real estate and asset acquisition circles.

"No... this is fake," Vanessa whispered, her voice shaking violently as she dropped the papers back onto the table. She spun around to face Daniel, grabbing the front of his tuxedo jacket and shaking him. "Tell me your father is lying! Tell me you didn't build your whole life on his money!"

Daniel stared down at the documents scattered around his shoes, his face turning the color of ash. He looked up at me, his eyes wide with a mixture of betrayal and absolute panic. "Dad... you... you lied to me. You let me believe I did this on my own. You let me take out loans against your properties knowing—"

"Knowing you would overextend yourself because you refused to listen to anyone who didn't praise your genius," I finished for him, my tone steady and uncompromising. "I gave you capital, Daniel. I gave you mentorship. What did you do with it? You fired the senior managers who kept your books clean because they pointed out your embezzlement of petty operating funds to fund Vanessa's extravagant shopping sprees."

Vanessa spun around, her face twisted in pure venom. "You arrogant old narcissist! You set us up! You sat back and watched us spend years building a life just so you could pull the rug out from under us whenever you felt like playing god?"

"No, Vanessa," I stood up slowly, towering over them both. "I watched you treat my wife—the woman who bled, sacrificed, and worked her fingers to the bone so your husband could stand here today—like dirt. I watched you mock her accent, belittle her dignity, and plot petty humiliations behind her back while my son stood by and smiled like a coward."

I stepped closer, my voice dropping to a low, razor-sharp register. "And tonight, you proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that neither of you possesses an ounce of loyalty, gratitude, or basic human decency. That makes you a financial liability to every asset bearing my family's name."

Daniel fell back against the edge of the vanity, burying his face in his hands. "What... what are you going to do to us?"

"The wedding reception is still ongoing downstairs," I said, checking my wristwatch. "In exactly ten minutes, the MC will invite the groom to the stage for a special announcement. You have two choices, Daniel. You can walk out onto that stage, announce that the wedding is canceled due to irreconcilable differences, and hand over the keys to your company car and corporate apartment tonight—or I will let the corporate auditors execute the default notices immediately, freezing all personal accounts tied to your social security number before sunrise."
