Chapter 5 - The Corporate Reformation

Six months later, the sun shone brightly over the glass facade of the newly renamed Costa-Bennett International Enterprises building in Midtown.

The dark, dangerous rumors of mafia wars had faded from the front pages of the newspapers, replaced by headlines praising Gabriel Costa’s brilliant transition into full legal real estate and clean international shipping infrastructure.

Inside the top-floor executive suite, Clara sat behind a massive white marble desk. She wore a sharp, cream-colored silk suit, her engagement ring glittering brilliantly under the modern lighting.

A knock came at her door.

"Come in," Clara called out.

The door opened, and a young, nervous woman in her early twenties stepped inside, holding a thick leather folder. She was Clara’s newly hired executive assistant, Sarah.

"Mrs. Costa—I mean, Ms. Bennett," Sarah stammered, correcting herself quickly. "The board members for the new green energy shipping initiative are assembled in Conference Room A. Mr. Costa is waiting for you."

Clara smiled warmly, closing her laptop. "Thank you, Sarah. And please, call me Clara. How are you finding your first week?"

"It’s... amazing, ma'am," Sarah said, letting out a relieved sigh. "Though I have to admit, Mr. Costa is a little intimidating."

Clara chuckled softly, standing up from her desk and picking up her iPad. "Gabriel looks like a storm cloud, Sarah, but as long as your spreadsheets are balanced to the third decimal point, he's harmless."

"If you say so, ma'am," Sarah smiled.

Clara walked down the long glass corridor toward Conference Room A. As she approached the double glass doors, she saw Gabriel standing inside, wearing a perfectly tailored navy suit. He was speaking animatedly with three international logistics investors from London.

The moment Gabriel caught sight of Clara through the glass, his stern, corporate expression completely vanished. A warm, breathtaking smile lit up his handsome face. He excused himself from the investors instantly and stepped out into the hallway to meet her.

"You're late, executive assistant," Gabriel murmured teasingly, leaning down to press a soft kiss against her cheek.

"I had to review the Q3 earnings reports for the foundation," Clara replied, sliding her hand into his broad palm. "And you know I don't like unorganized numbers."

Gabriel chuckled, his broad thumb stroking the back of her hand. "The investors are ready to sign the fifty-million-dollar contract for the new fleet."

"Did you make them sign Clause 14 regarding local labor unions?" Clara asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Of course I did," Gabriel smiled proudly. "I learned from the best fixer in New York."

Before they could walk into the conference room, Mateo walked down the hallway wearing a sharp suit and holding a tablet.

"Boss, Mrs. Costa," Mateo nodded respectfully. "The security reports for the seaside estate in Tuscany just came through. The renovations are ninety percent complete. The private villa and the vineyard will be ready by next month."

Clara turned to Gabriel, her eyes wide with surprise. "Tuscany? You bought the vineyard?"

"I told you six months ago, Clara," Gabriel said softly, looking down at her with endless devotion. "When we rebuild our life, we do it right. No more damp gray fog in New York. Just sunshine, good wine, and you."

Clara felt a wave of profound happiness flood her chest. She stood on her tiptoes, pressing her lips against his in a sweet, lingering kiss right in front of Mateo and the entire executive floor.

"I love you, Gabriel," she whispered against his lips.

"I love you more than life itself, my sweet fixer," Gabriel rasped back, wrapping his arm securely around her waist as they walked into the conference room together to claim their future.
