Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

By Thursday evening, the final trap was set.
Instead of exposing the corporate espionage plot immediately, Victoria and I worked silently with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Securities and Exchange Commission to turn Sterling’s own scheme against him.
We allowed Richard Sterling to believe his insider plot was proceeding without a hitch.
Through Harrison’s confiscated network access, we fed Sterling’s proxy firm false security schedules and manipulated financial reports indicating that Northline’s acquisition of Vanguard Tech was falling through due to accounting irregularities.
Believing the false leak was genuine, Sterling poured over forty million dollars of his investment fund’s capital into shorting my company’s stock, expecting the share price to plunge the moment the news hit the press on Friday morning.
At nine o'clock on Friday morning, I stood in the main auditorium of the Los Angeles Financial Center, surrounded by hundreds of reporters, corporate executives, and camera crews.
On the front row sat Victoria Vance, alongside special agents from the FBI's Financial Crimes Division.
Beside them, sitting in the executive guest section, were Rosa Martinez and Camila. I had personally invited them to sit in the front row as my honored guests, dressed in beautiful new clothes, symbolizing the turning of a new chapter.
I stepped up to the podium, adjusting the microphone as the room fell quiet.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," I began, my voice clear and confident, echoing through the packed auditorium. "Over the past forty-eight hours, there have been numerous rumors regarding the financial stability of Vance Enterprises and our pending acquisition of Vanguard Tech."
In his private luxury office in downtown Los Angeles, Richard Sterling was watching the live broadcast on a massive wall television, a glass of scotch in his hand, waiting for me to announce the collapse of the deal so he could collect his millions.
I looked directly into the news cameras.
"I am proud to announce that as of eight o'clock this morning, Vance Enterprises has officially completed the $400 million acquisition of Vanguard Tech—three days ahead of schedule," I announced smoothly. "Furthermore, our quarterly earnings have exceeded market projections by thirty-five percent."
The room erupted into applause.
On the trading floor, Vance Enterprises stock skyrocketed by forty percent in a matter of seconds.
Richard Sterling’s short positions were instantly wiped out. In less than two minutes, his investment firm lost over fifty million dollars, triggering an immediate margin call that bankrupted his company permanently.
"Additionally," I continued, holding up a sleek black folder, "with the assistance of the FBI, we have uncovered a major corporate espionage ring operating through offshore proxy funds. Arrest warrants have been issued for the principals of Sterling Global, as well as several internal conspirators."
At that exact moment, the heavy double doors of Richard Sterling’s office were kicked open by federal agents. The glass of scotch spilled across his desk as hand-cuffs were clicked around his wrists.
Back in the auditorium, I looked down at the front row, meeting Camila’s wide, shining eyes.

"Success in business is meaningless if we fail to protect the integrity of our own homes and the people who keep them running," I said into the microphone, my voice filled with genuine warmth. "This company was saved not by market analysts or high-priced lawyers, but by the courage of a remarkable young girl who reminded me what true leadership really means."
The crowd turned toward the front row, giving a standing ovation to a beaming, blushing nine-year-old girl sitting beside her weeping mother.
