Chapter 4 - Unearthing the Conspiracy

Julian stared at me in shock, his jaw open. "What are you talking about?"

"Marcus," I called out into the hallway.

Marcus stepped out from the private study, accompanied by two armed estate security officers.

"Escort Mr. Vance off the property," I ordered coldly. "Change the security codes to the gates, revoke his guest passes, and contact my legal team. I want his access to the family trust frozen immediately."

"Graham! You can't do this!" Julian screamed as Marcus firmly grabbed his arm, guiding him backward toward the grand entrance. "I'm your brother! You can't ruin my life over a few housekeepers!"

"You ruined your own life the moment you mistook my generosity for weakness," I replied without turning back.

The front doors slammed shut, cutting off Julian’s frantic shouts.

Ten minutes later, I was back in my private office with my corporate legal counsel, Victoria Vance, who had arrived via emergency helicopter from downtown Los Angeles. Victoria was a brilliant, sharp-witted attorney who had represented my firm for over a decade.

She reviewed the bank statements, the shell company documents, and the digital logs Marcus had pulled from Harrison’s confiscated laptop.

"It’s systematic grand larceny, Graham," Victoria said, setting down her gold fountain pen. "Harrison and Julian didn't just steal from the domestic staff. They’ve been using Apex Heritage LLC to inflate vendor invoices for the estate for over eighteen months."

I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. "How much did they take in total?"

"Preliminary estimates show roughly $1.4 million siphoned out of your estate reserves over the past year and a half," Victoria revealed. "And it gets worse."

I opened my eyes, looking at her sharp, serious expression. "Worse how?"

"Harrison kept a backup hard drive in his desk," Victoria explained, pulling a black USB drive from her folder. "He was taking kickbacks from external contractors to grant them access to your private security network. He sold the layout schematics of your Beverly Hills estate, your private flight schedules, and your personal calendar to an offshore intelligence firm."

My blood ran cold.

"Why would an offshore firm want my private schedules?" I asked.

Victoria’s eyes narrowed. "Because your firm is currently finalizing the $400 million acquisition of Vanguard Tech, the defense logistics contractor. Someone was using your brother’s gambling debts and Harrison’s greed to gather insider information to short your stock before the acquisition closes next week."

I sat in stunned silence.

This wasn't just a petty theft scheme orchestrated by a desperate brother and a corrupt manager. It was a corporate sabotage plot designed to ruin my life’s work, cripple my company, and destroy my reputation—and my own brother had handed them the keys to my front door for a few thousand dollars in gambling credit.

"Who owns the offshore firm that bought the data?" I demanded, my tone hardening into absolute steel.

Victoria plugged the USB drive into her laptop, bringing up a complex ownership tree on the screen.

"It’s a proxy corporation based in the Cayman Islands," Victoria said, tracing the corporate structure down to the ultimate beneficial owner. "Registered under the name of... Sterling Global Investments."

I stared at the screen in disbelief.

Sterling Global was owned by Richard Sterling—my former business partner who had been ousted from my board three years ago after I caught him attempting to embezzle company research.

Sterling had been lying in wait, using my brother’s weaknesses to dismantle my life from the inside out.

"They thought you would be too busy negotiating the Vanguard acquisition to notice what was happening in your own home," Victoria said quietly. "If that little girl hadn't stopped you in the hallway today, Sterling’s firm would have leaked your private security data on Friday, forcing the SEC to freeze your shares."

I looked out the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of my office toward the lush gardens where Camila and her mother were currently walking safely.

A little girl with two uneven braids and a pink backpack had saved my entire empire.
