Chapter 6 - The Lawyer Who Had Helped Save Gideon Was the One Preparing to Kill Him, and He Made One Mistake Only I Would NoticeAdrian was careful.

He never handled food.
Never handled drinks.
Never issued suspicious orders.
He worked through intermediaries.
But he made one mistake.
He used lavender soap.
I noticed.
Years working in houses had taught me that people left traces.
Adrian had visited the estate only twice.
Both times, the same scent.
Lavender.
I remembered it from a photograph.
My father's notes.
The poison compound had been stored in a laboratory using lavender disinfectant.
It seemed insignificant.
It wasn't.
We traced the supplier.
Adrian had bought the same compound.
Under a company name.
We confronted him.
He smiled.
“You have no evidence.”
I placed the receipt on the table.
He stared.
Then smiled again.
“Good work.”
Gideon stood.
“What do you want?”
“Your inheritance.”
“You already have money.”
“Money isn't the point.”
“What is?”
“Respect.”
Adrian laughed.
“Your family took everything from mine.”
“What family?”
“My mother.”
Silence.
Adrian's mother had been Gideon's father's first wife.
She had died after a divorce.
She had left behind a child.
Adrian.
The second branch of the family.
For decades, he believed he had been cheated.
He wanted revenge.
He wanted control.
He wanted Gideon dead.
But he had one weakness.
Pride.
He wanted Gideon to know who defeated him.
That was the mistake.
Adrian kidnapped Elena.
He demanded the trust.
Gideon agreed.
I told him not to.
He said:
“He wants a show.”
“So?”
“We give him one.”
We went to the old estate.
Adrian waited.
Elena was tied to a chair.
Marco came with federal agents.
The plan was already moving.
Adrian tried to force Gideon to sign.
Gideon pretended.
Then I noticed a tiny bottle.
Same poison.
Same lavender scent.
I knocked it over.
Adrian panicked.
The police moved.
He tried to run.
He was arrested.
Elena was safe.
The final evidence cleared Gideon's name.
The trust was restructured.
Adrian went to trial.
And for the first time, the old family war ended.
Gideon turned toward me.
“You saved us again.”
“No.”
I smiled.
“You finally listened.”
He laughed.
May you like
Then kissed me.
This time, neither of us stopped.
