Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After (With Extra Whipped Cream)

Six months later, the courtyard of the Morello family estate on the North Shore was transformed into a breathtaking garden of white roses, ivy, and twinkling fairy lights.
There were no snobby socialites, no corporate spies, and no hostile takeovers.
Instead, the guest list was a chaotic, beautiful reflection of our lives: Frank and Eleanor Morello beaming proudly in the front row; Elena sipping champagne with a knowing smile; Sophie acting as my fiercely proud maid of honor; and a dozen loyal neighborhood regulars who had supported Rose & Rye through thick and thin.
I wore a custom ivory lace gown that hugged my curves perfectly, making me feel like an absolute queen. When I walked down the stone aisle on Frank’s arm—while the old man grumbled affectionately about his cardiologist—and saw Adrian waiting for me at the altar with tears shining in his eyes, I knew I had won the greatest prize of all.
We didn't just survive their world; we reshaped it.
After the ceremony, as the string quartet transitioned into a lively jazz band and the reception dinner got underway, the wedding cake was wheeled out onto the patio.
It wasn't a traditional, fondant-covered multi-tier disaster from a high-end caterer. It was a magnificent, five-layer rustic vanilla bean cake, baked by Sophie and decorated by me, topped with rich, organic whipped cream and fresh summer berries.
When it came time for the traditional cake cutting, Adrian handed me a silver spatula, a mischievous gleam in his storm-grey eyes.
"You know," Adrian leaned down and whispered in my ear, his lips brushing my cheek, "just in case anyone here tonight thinks they can disrespect my wife... I want you to know I fully support your culinary methods."
I laughed, a bright, joyful sound that carried across the garden, and scooped a generous dollop of whipped cream on the spatula.

"Don't tempt me, Mr. Morello," I teased, smiling up at my husband. "I'm a woman of my word."
He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me flush against his chest as our family and friends cheered, and we danced into the warm Chicago night—happily, perfectly, and fiercely ourselves.
