Chapter 8 - The Siege

Dorian did not get the chance to leave the estate.
The heavy, metallic sound of the perimeter alarms suddenly shrieked through the silent woods.
Red emergency lights began flashing inside the bedroom.
Dorian rushed to the window, peering through the reinforced glass.
Dozens of black SUVs were tearing through the iron gates, completely overwhelming the outer security checkpoints.
Victor had tracked them.
He knew Dorian had the evidence, and he had brought a small army to ensure neither Dorian nor the widow survived the night.
"Get down!" Dorian roared, sprinting back to the bed.
He grabbed Marin by the waist and pulled her off the mattress just as the bedroom windows shattered violently.
Heavy machine-gun fire tore through the room, shredding the expensive curtains and turning the drywall into powder.
Titan barked furiously, standing protectively over Marin's trembling body.
Dorian pulled his weapon and kicked open the door to the reinforced master bathroom.
"Get in the tub and keep your head down!" Dorian ordered, shoving her inside.
"Titan, guard!"
The massive dog sat perfectly still in front of the bathtub, his eyes locked on the bathroom door, ready to kill anything that crossed the threshold.
Dorian stepped back into the bedroom, moving with the terrifying efficiency of a man who had survived a dozen wars.
He grabbed a heavy tactical rifle from a hidden wall safe.
The sounds of brutal combat echoed through the hallways of the massive estate.
Dorian’s loyal men were fighting fiercely, but Victor had brought overwhelming numbers.
The bedroom door violently kicked open.
Two of Victor’s heavily armed mercenaries stepped inside.
Dorian didn't hesitate.
He fired two controlled bursts, dropping both men instantly before they even realized he was in the room.
He stepped over their bodies and walked out into the hallway.
The smoke was thick, smelling of gunpowder and burning wood.
Dorian moved like a ghost, systematically eliminating every threat that crossed his path.
He wasn't fighting for territory anymore.
He wasn't fighting for money or power.
He was fighting for the terrified woman hiding in his bathroom.
He reached the grand staircase just as Victor Silas walked through the shattered front doors of the mansion.
Victor was wearing tactical armor, holding an assault rifle, and smiling a cold, arrogant smile.
"It's over, Dorian!" Victor shouted over the gunfire.
"My men have the house surrounded!"
"Give me the widow and the files, and I'll let you walk away!"
Dorian stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at the man he had once called a brother.

"You died the night you killed Daniel Caldwell," Dorian replied coldly.
"You just didn't know it yet."
