Chapter 9 - The Boardroom SurpriseBy mid-December, the transformation of the Vale syndicate was complete.

In the glass-walled boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Vale Tower in downtown Chicago, twenty regional directors and senior executives sat around the quartz conference table, awaiting Dominic’s final address before the holiday break.

The atmosphere was relaxed, though tinged with the customary awe the executives held for their syndicate boss.

Dominic walked in precisely at nine o'clock, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, his posture straight, his expression calm and assured. But as he took his seat at the head of the table, he didn't open a laptop or distribute a financial dossier.

Instead, he placed a small, elegantly wrapped gift box right in the center of the quartz surface.

The executives exchanged bewildered glances.

Dominic cleared his throat, his deep voice carrying clearly across the silent room.

“Before we adjourn for the year,” Dominic began, his eyes scanning the boardroom, “there is an announcement I need to make regarding the future leadership and operational structure of Vale Holdings.”

A senior partner named Harrison leaned forward nervously. “Mr. Vale? Is there an issue with the federal transition?”

“None at all, Harrison,” Dominic said smoothly. “In fact, the transition is complete. And the person most responsible for restructuring our core values—specifically, teaching this organization the difference between cold control and genuine strength—is joining the executive board as our new Chief Operations Advisor.”

The double doors at the back of the boardroom swung open.

Ruby walked in.

She wore a stunning emerald-green silk dress that hugged her curves with breathtaking elegance, her dark curls styled in soft, cascading waves, her head held high with absolute, radiant confidence.

The entire boardroom sat in stunned, absolute silence. Several executives dropped their pens.

Ruby walked calmly to the head of the table, standing right beside Dominic.

Dominic stood up, pulled out the chair directly to his right, and seated her with the reverence usually reserved for visiting heads of state.

“Allow me to introduce Ms. Ruby Bennett,” Dominic said, a proud, undeniable smile breaking across his face. “She keeps the books, she manages the security protocols, and if anyone gives her trouble, she knows how to throw a cast-iron skillet with lethal precision.”

A collective, nervous chuckle rippled through the room. Then, led by Marcus standing by the back doors, the entire boardroom broke into a thunderous, genuine round of applause.

Ruby looked down the long table, then turned to Dominic, her eyes shining with unshed tears of pure joy.
