Chapter 6 - The Uninvited Guest

The storm outside the hospital raged with a violent fury, throwing heavy rain against the glass windows.

Thunder rattled the medical equipment in Room 412, but Thomas remained perfectly still.

Rachel had finally convinced Madison to go down to the hospital cafeteria with Aunt Lorraine for a quick dinner.

She needed to be alone with the man who wore her husband’s face, to demand answers.

But before Rachel could confront him, the heavy door to the room clicked open.

A man stepped inside, shaking water from a dark trench coat and lowering the brim of a baseball cap.

Rachel stood up immediately, her protective instincts flaring as she blocked the stranger's path.

"Visiting hours ended an hour ago, who are you?" Rachel demanded aggressively.

The man ignored her completely, keeping his dark, dangerous eyes fixed entirely on Thomas.

He reached inside his wet coat and pulled out a long, metallic object wrapped in a rag.

It was a heavy, suppressed pistol, and he pointed it directly at the man in the bed.

"You should be rotting in the ground, Clarke," the stranger hissed, his voice full of venom.

Rachel screamed and threw herself to the floor as the man stepped closer to the bed.

She suddenly recognized the voice.

It was Marcus Thorne, a former business partner of Thomas’s who had vanished two years ago after a bitter dispute.

The police had suspected Marcus of embezzlement, but they never found enough evidence to charge him.

Now, Marcus stood in the hospital room, aiming a gun at the miracle survivor.

"I gave you enough ricin to kill a horse, Tom," Marcus spat, his hand trembling slightly.

"I watched you collapse, I watched you stop breathing on your office floor."

Rachel covered her mouth in absolute shock, realizing the true cause of her husband's sudden "heart attack."

It hadn't been a medical tragedy at all.

It had been cold-blooded murder.

Marcus steadied the heavy gun, aiming directly for the center of Thomas’s forehead.

"I am going to make sure you stay dead this time," the killer sneered.

Thomas did not flinch, nor did he beg for his life.

Instead, he let out a low, terrifying laugh that sounded like grinding stones.

Faster than the human eye could track, Thomas lunged out of the hospital bed.

He ignored the IV lines tearing from his skin and closed the distance in a fraction of a second.

Before Marcus could pull the trigger, Thomas grabbed the killer’s wrist with a sickening crunch.

Marcus screamed in absolute agony as the heavy pistol dropped to the linoleum floor.

Thomas lifted the grown man entirely off the ground by his throat, using only one hand.

His unnatural strength was completely impossible for a man who had just returned from the dead.

"I didn't come back for you, Marcus," Thomas whispered, his voice echoing with demonic power.

"But you are in my way."
