Chapter 10 - The Golden Horizon

One year later.

The morning sun broke over the high cliffs of Long Island, casting a golden light across the blue ocean waves crashing against the rocks below Moretti Manor.

The dark iron gates of the estate were open. The crimson emergency lights were gone. The heavy, oppressive atmosphere that had once defined the mansion was replaced by the bright, joyful sound of children's laughter echoing through the gardens.

I stood on the wide back patio wearing a simple white sundress, holding a mug of warm coffee. On my left hand, the massive diamond ring sparkled under the sunlight—no longer a symbol of a fake contract, but a promise of a real, unbreakable future.

Down on the green lawn, Ricardo was kneeling in the grass, teaching four-year-old Leo how to kick a soccer ball. Ricardo’s dark suit was gone, replaced by a simple linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, his dark eyes bright with genuine happiness.

"Look, Mommy! Look!" Leo shouted, kicking the ball toward the small net and cheering wildly as it rolled across the grass.

Mommy.

The word filled my heart with a profound warmth that made every tear, every fear, and every dark moment of the past five years entirely worth it.

Ricardo stood up, dusting the grass off his knees, and walked up the patio steps toward me. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, pulling my back tightly against his chest, resting his chin gently on my shoulder.

"What are you thinking about?" Ricardo murmured, his warm breath tickling my ear.

"I'm thinking about the night we met," I smiled, leaning back against his strong frame. "When a three-year-old mafia heir wouldn't stop screaming in a five-star restaurant, and his terrifying father fired me on the spot."

Ricardo let out a soft, low laugh, kissing the side of my neck. "Firing you was the worst tactical error of my life. Hiring you was the best decision I ever made."

"You gave me a terrifying deal, Moretti," I teased, turning in his arms to wrap my hands around his neck. "And you made me promise never to fall in love with you."

"I'm glad you're terrible at following rules," Ricardo whispered, leaning down to press his lips gently against mine.

Down on the lawn, Leo kicked the ball again, his bright laughter ringing through the warm morning air.

The ghosts of the past were buried. The lies were gone. The fake engagement had turned into an unbreakable truth.

And as the sun rose higher over the golden horizon, I knew that under the roof of Moretti Manor, we were finally home.
