Chapter 6 - The Kingdom of Light

One year later.

The autumn sun beat warmly over the sprawling green lawns of the Romano Manor in Greenwich.

The grand stone terrace was decorated with hundreds of white roses, golden ribbons, and crystal chandeliers suspended from the wooden pergolas.

Laughter and elegant classical music echoed across the estate as over two hundred guests—business titans, diplomats, family friends, and community leaders—gathered to celebrate Victoria Romano’s first birthday.

I stood on the terrace, wearing a stunning navy silk dress that draped gracefully over my figure. Beside me stood Marcus Sterling and Arthur Vance, raising their glasses of champagne in a toast.

In the center of the lawn, my mother was holding little Victoria, who was wearing a tiny white lace dress, laughing merrily as she tried to catch glowing bubbles blown by the staff.

Victoria was a happy, spirited child—fearless, curious, and endlessly energetic. She walked early, spoke early, and brought a vibrant, golden light into every room she entered.

My phone chimed softly in my hand.

It was a quiet notification from my personal security detail in Maine.

Report: Dante Mercer’s civil petition regarding trust fund visitation rights has been formally withdrawn by his legal counsel. He has permanently relocated to Europe.

I locked the phone screen and slid it into my purse without a second thought.

Dante Mercer was a ghost from a past life—a footnote in a story that had outgrown him long ago.

As I walked down the stone steps onto the lawn, the afternoon breeze blew gently through my hair. Guests parted respectfully, offering warm smiles, admiring glances, and genuine congratulations.

Under my leadership, Romano-Mercer Enterprises had doubled its valuation, becoming one of the most ethical, powerful, and successful global conglomerates in North America. I didn't rule through fear or intimidation, but through precision, fairness, and absolute competence.

I walked over to my mother and reached out my arms.

Victoria immediately reached for me, squealing with joy as I lifted her high into the air, her tiny shoes kicking against the sunshine before I pulled her close to my heart.

She rested her small head against my shoulder, her little arms wrapping tightly around my neck.

“Look around, Victoria,” I whispered in her ear, pointing toward the vast, beautiful gardens stretching out beneath the blue autumn sky. “This is your home. This is your legacy.”

Victoria looked out over the lawn, her dark eyes sparkling with infinite wonder and zero fear.

I kissed her soft cheek, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of her heart against mine.

I had spent years believing that a successful marriage meant keeping myself small so someone else could feel big. But standing in the sunlight of my own estate, holding my daughter in my arms, I knew the ultimate truth:

Real power isn't about sitting on someone else’s throne.

It’s about building a world where love, strength, and truth reign supreme—and knowing that no storm, no betrayal, and no small mind can ever take it away.
