Chapter 3

Bound tightly to heavy wooden chairs in the center of the courtyard sat the two Romano enforcers who had dared breach the estate the night before. Surrounding them stood thirty of Alessandro’s most lethal capos and enforcers, their weapons holstered but their postures rigid with coiled violence.

The heavy double doors of the mansion swung open, and Isabella Romano stepped out onto the terrace, wrapped in a fur-lined cashmere coat, looking smug and untouchable. She expected to see Alessandro waiting to apologize for his behavior the previous morning, perhaps ready to smooth things over before the upcoming wedding rehearsals.

Instead, she saw her father’s top enforcers beaten, bound, and kneeling in the dirt.

Isabella stopped dead in her tracks, the color draining entirely from her face. “What... what is the meaning of this? Alessandro, have you lost your mind? Those are my father’s men!”

Alessandro stepped out from the shadows of the colonnade, walking slowly toward her with his hands resting casually inside his trouser pockets. He didn’t look angry; he looked like a supreme judge reviewing a minor technicality before handing down a permanent sentence.

“Your father’s men decided to pay a midnight visit to my kitchen, Isabella,” Alessandro said, his voice carrying effortlessly across the frosty courtyard. “They brought weapons into my home. They intended to harm a mother and a child sleeping beneath my roof.”

“That’s... that’s absurd!” Isabella shrieked, though her voice cracked with undeniable panic. “They were probably checking the grounds for security! You’re framing them to get out of the marriage!”

“I don’t need to frame dead men to cancel a contract,” Alessandro replied coldly. He snapped his fingers, and Mr. Bruno stepped forward, handing him a thick manila folder. Alessandro tossed the folder onto the cobblestones at Isabella’s feet. It flipped open, scattering photographs, wire transfer receipts, encrypted phone transcripts, and sworn confessions detailing Vincent Romano’s multi-year conspiracy to undermine Moretti shipping routes and execute a hostile corporate takeover of New York real estate.

“Your father never wanted a truce, Isabella,” Alessandro said, stepping closer until he towered over her. “He wanted a vassal. He wanted to use you as a Trojan horse to infiltrate my estate and assassinate my bloodline when the time was right.”

Isabella stared down at the documents, realizing with sickening horror that her family’s entire grand strategy had been completely unraveled overnight. She fell to her knees on the stone, clutching at the hem of Alessandro’s trousers. “Alessandro, please... I didn't know! My father kept me out of the logistics! Don't do this—our families have an agreement!”

“The agreement died the moment your father sent men into a house where my daughter sleeps,” Alessandro stated, his voice absolute and unyielding. He looked past her toward the gates, where a convoy of federal black SUVs—tipped off anonymously by Moretti legal counsel—had just pulled up to the estate, accompanied by state troopers and FBI agents.

Within minutes, the federal authorities swarmed the courtyard, armed with an ironclad RICO indictment against Vincent Romano and his entire criminal syndicate. Isabella watched in shell-shocked horror as federal marshals slapped steel handcuffs onto her wrists, dragging her away from the estate in disgrace while the Romano empire crumbled to dust in real-time.

Later that afternoon, the estate was quiet once more. The crisp autumn sunlight warmed the stone terraces, chasing away the morning frost.

In the back kitchen—no longer a hidden servant’s alcove, but officially designated as the family’s private morning room—Rosa sat at the wooden table, holding a steaming cup of coffee. Standing beside her was Alessandro, holding little Lily in his arms as the toddler happily played with the gold button she had found in the hallway two days earlier.

Rosa looked up at him, her dark eyes filled with a mixture of awe and lingering apprehension. “What happens now, Alessandro? The Romanos are gone, but the city... the commission... they will talk.”

Alessandro walked over, pulling a chair close to hers, sitting down while keeping Lily safely balanced on his knee. He reached out with his free hand, gently covering Rosa’s calloused, hardworking fingers with his own.

“Let them talk,” Alessandro said, a warm, genuine smile—the kind no one outside these walls had ever seen—transforming his handsome features. “For four years, you carried my child in secret, protecting her from a world of monsters. From today onward, you don’t have to hide anymore. The Moretti estate belongs to both of you. And as for the commission... they will learn to respect a united family, or they will share the fate of the Romanos.”

Rosa let out a long, trembling breath, the heavy burden she had carried for half a decade finally lifting completely from her shoulders. She turned her hand over, intertwining her fingers securely with Alessandro’s.

Little Lily looked up from her gold button, pointing an excited finger at both of them. “Look, Mommy! Look, Daddy! We have matching hands!”

Alessandro and Rosa exchanged a profound, loving glance, laughing softly as they pulled their daughter into a tight, unbreakable family embrace. The shadows of the syndicate wars were gone, replaced by a brilliant, sun-drenched horizon where they would stand together—completely, powerfully, and eternally safe.
