Chapter 7 - Epilogue — The New DawnTwo weeks after the federal sentencing, the sun rose over the Chicago skyline, casting a golden, brilliant light across the tranquil waters of the lake outside my father’s estate.

Inside the custom nursery, the air was warm and filled with the gentle, soothing melody of a musical mobile turning slowly above a white wooden crib.
I sat in a comfortable rocking chair by the window, cradling a tiny, perfect bundle wrapped in a soft pink blanket.
Her name was Maya.
She had my eyes, a full head of dark, silky hair, and the unmistakable, fierce grip of a little girl who was destined to conquer the world.
The door to the nursery opened quietly, and my father stepped inside. He had traded his military jacket for a simple knit sweater, but the quiet strength in his posture remained unchanged. He walked over slowly, kneeling beside the rocking chair, gazing down at his granddaughter with a look of absolute, unconditional adoration.
“She has your spirit, Em,” my father whispered softly, gently brushing his finger against Maya’s tiny, perfect cheek.
“She has your stubbornness, Dad,” I smiled, looking down at my daughter before meeting my father’s proud eyes.
A year ago, I was trapped in a dark room beneath a thick blue blanket, believing that my voice didn't matter, that my bruises would never heal, and that nobody would ever come to save me.
I had been wrong.
My father had come. He had pulled back the blanket, shattered the lies, and destroyed the monsters who thought they could break us.
Maya let out a soft, contented sigh in her sleep, snuggling deeper into my arms.

My father stood up, placing a protective, warm hand on both my shoulder and my daughter’s tiny head. Together, we looked out the wide nursery window at the endless expanse of the morning sky, bright, clear, and entirely free of shadows.
The past was behind us. The future was ours. And our family was stronger than ever.
