Chapter 3 - The Trap in the Warehouse

The rain pounded relentlessly against the corrugated steel roof of Warehouse 14 at the Red Hook docks.

Inside, the air smelled of salt, diesel fuel, and rusted iron. Shadows stretched long and dark across rows of heavy wooden shipping crates.

Dominic stood near the center of the warehouse, flanked by six of his most trusted men, all heavily armed. Beside him stood Marco, holding a tactical map of the docks.

"The Ross family lieutenants are supposed to meet us here at midnight to settle the territory dispute," Marco said, checking his watch. "They're late."

"They aren't late," Dominic said, staring into the dark rafters above. "They're already here."

Suddenly, the heavy iron doors at both ends of the warehouse slammed shut with a deafening bang. High-powered halogen lights flickered on, blinding Dominic's men.

From behind the shipping crates, twenty armed men emerged, rifles raised, surrounding Dominic's small group. Walking out from the shadows was Sal Ross—the ruthless, gray-haired Don of the rival family.

"Dominic Moretti," Sal Ross sneered, his voice echoing off the metal walls. "You should have stayed in your tower playing with your little girl."

Dominic did not flinch. His expression remained calm, cold, and utterly unbothered. "Sal. I see you brought your entire crew just to sign a peace treaty."

"There is no peace treaty, Dominic," Sal laughed. "Your empire dies tonight. And I have to thank my good friend here for setting the table."

Sal gestured toward Marco.

Slowly, without a word, Marco stepped away from Dominic’s side, walking over to stand next to Sal Ross. He pulled a sleek silver pistol from his suit jacket and aimed it directly at Dominic’s heart.

Dominic’s men raised their weapons, but Dominic held up a single hand, signaling them to hold their fire. His eyes were fixed on Marco. There was no anger in Dominic’s face—only a profound, tragic disappointment.

"Twenty years, Marco," Dominic said softly. "My father treated you like a second son."

"Your father kept my family in the dirt while the Morettis ate off gold plates!" Marco spat, his polite, warm demeanor completely melting away into bitter hatred. "I was always the lieutenant, always the shadow behind the great Dominic Moretti! I deserved half of this city!"

"So you gave Elena the warning six years ago," Dominic stated, assembling the final pieces of the tragedy. "You told her I was going to die so she would run away with my heir."

"She was a distraction!" Marco sneered. "You were soft when you were with her! I needed you focused on taking over the city so I could take it from you when the time was right! But then she had that damn kid, and Anna kept her hidden in Queens!"

Marco’s eyes turned murderous. "And then three days ago, you canceled the Colombo lunch because of a letter from an orphanage. I knew the moment you saw that girl, you'd figure it out. I tried to have Anna kill the girl five years ago, but the stupid woman hid her in that convent!"

"You targeted an eight-year-old child," Dominic whispered, his voice dropping into a register so dark it made the hair on the back of Sal Ross’s neck stand up.

"I targeted your bloodline," Marco corrected coldly. "And tonight, it ends. Kill them all."

Before Marco could pull the trigger, a sudden, blinding flash of light erupted from the skylights above.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

Heavy stun grenades crashed through the glass roof, detonating with deafening booms and blinding white light. Sal Ross's men screamed, clutching their eyes and ears as total chaos erupted.

"NOW!" Dominic roared.

Dominic moved with terrifying speed. He didn't shoot at the disoriented thugs; he lunged straight for Marco. He grabbed Marco's gun hand, twisting his wrist with a brutal snap that dropped the silver pistol to the floor.

Marco gasped in agony, but Dominic didn't stop. He slammed Marco against a steel container, pinning him by his throat, his dark eyes burning with demonic fury.

From the shadows of the warehouse, dozens of tactical SWAT officers and Dominic’s secondary strike team flooded the building, disarming and arresting Sal Ross and his blinded men.

Dominic had not come to negotiate. He had brought the Federal Organized Crime Task Force with him, supplying them with six years of Marco's off-the-books bank records in exchange for total immunity for his legitimate businesses.

Marco choked, his face turning purple under Dominic's iron grip. "Dominic... please... we're brothers..."

Dominic leaned in close, his voice a lethal whisper against Marco's ear. "I have no brother. I have a daughter. And you will spend the rest of your miserable life in a federal cell thinking about what happens to men who touch my family."

Dominic shoved Marco to the ground, where two federal agents slammed handcuffs onto his wrists and dragged him away, screaming into the rain.
