Chapter 6 - The Legacy of Light

One year later.

The grand gardens of the Moretti estate were decorated with hundreds of white silk banners, blooming yellow roses, and long wooden tables set for a grand celebration.

It was Lily’s fourth birthday.

The entire estate was filled with the sounds of music, laughter, and children playing. The senior lieutenants of the Moretti syndicate—men who had spent their lives dealing in shadows and street dominance—were dressed in bright linen shirts, happily helping set up a massive bouncy castle on the manicured lawn. Mateo was standing near the barbecue, proudly wearing a comical apron that read World's Best Security Chief, serving grilled skewers to the domestic staff and security team alike.

The old atmosphere of fear, paranoia, and dangerous secrets had been completely erased, replaced by an unbreakable sense of true, unified family.

On the grand stone terrace overlooking the lawn, I stood holding a glass of iced tea, watching the festivities.

I felt a soft tug at the bottom of my trousers.

I looked down. Lily stood there, wearing a tiny white princess dress and a glittering paper crown on her dark curls. She was holding her faded stuffed rabbit in one hand, while her other hand reached up toward me.

"Uncle Vincent!" she chirped happily, her gray-green eyes shining with boundless joy. "Mommy says it's time to cut the cake! Come on!"

A profound, overwhelming sense of peace washed over my chest.

"Uncle Vincent."

Hearing those words spoken by Julian's daughter was a gift greater than any territory, any wealth, or any power I had ever possessed in my life.

I leaned down and lifted her smoothly into my arms, propping her up on my hip. "Is the cake big enough for a princess, Lily?"

"It has four candles!" she announced proudly, holding up four tiny fingers. "And chocolate strawberries on top!"

Clara walked up the terrace steps, wearing a stunning white summer dress that caught the ocean breeze. She looked radiant, healthy, and deeply at peace. She reached up and adjusted the paper crown on Lily's head, her eyes locking with mine in a quiet, unspoken language of mutual love and gratitude.

"Are you ready, Don Vincent?" Clara teased gently, a playful sparkle in her eyes. "The whole family is waiting for you."

"I am ready," I said smoothly, wrapping my free arm gently around Clara’s waist as we walked down the terrace steps together toward the laughing crowd below.

As we reached the grand table, the entire crowd turned toward us, breaking into loud applause and cheers. Lily clapped her small hands together, leaning over to press a sweet, sticky kiss against my cheek.

I looked up at the bright, clear blue sky above the estate.

Five years ago, my brother Julian had died in the dark rain. But his love, his courage, and his spirit had survived through the little girl laughing in my arms. The darkness that had haunted the Moretti family for a generation was finally gone, banished forever by the tiny footsteps of a three-year-old girl who had dared to knock on the door she was warned never to approach.

And as we blew out the four candles on the birthday cake together, surrounded by the people who loved us, I knew that the Moretti legacy was no longer built on blood and shadows... but on light, loyalty, and an everlasting home.
