Chapter 6 - The True Legacy
That evening, as the red sun dipped below the Atlantic horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of magenta, gold, and deep purple, a grand family dinner took place on the oceanfront terrace.
The long wooden table was filled with fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and laughter. Uncle Carlo was there, telling animated stories about old Italy to the four boys, who sat listening with wide, fascinated eyes.
Clara sat at the head of the table beside me, her hand resting warmly in mine under the table, her face glowing under the soft string lights hanging from the porch roof.
I stood up, holding my glass of sparkling wine. The entire table fell silent, every eye turning toward me.
"Six months ago," I spoke, my voice clear, strong, and carrying across the quiet ocean breeze, "I thought my duty was to protect a legacy built on power, business alliances, and fear."
I looked down at Clara, then at Leo, Julian, Mateo, and Lucas, who were looking up at me with bright, unbroken pride.
"I was wrong," I continued gently. "True legacy isn't built on agreements signed in dark rooms. It's built on the people you protect, the love you hold, and the courage to choose family over everything else."
I raised my glass high.
"To Clara," I declared. "The heart of this family. And to my four sons—the true strength of the Moretti name."
"To family!" Uncle Carlo boomed, raising his glass.
"To family!" everyone around the table cheered loudly, their glasses clinking together under the warm spring stars.
I sat back down, pulling Clara close to my side, kissing her deeply as our four boys cheered and giggled around the table.
The dark shadows of Boston were far behind us. The fortress was unbreakable, the family was whole, and under the open sky of Cape Cod, my life was finally complete.
