Chapter 19 - Severing the Head

Silas stopped in his tracks, clearly amused by the sight of the former hotel maid holding a firearm.
"Do you even know how to take the safety off, sweetheart?" Silas mocked her, raising his heavy weapon.
Elena’s hands were completely steady, driven by the ferocious, unstoppable power of a mother protecting her child.
"My husband taught me exactly how to use it," Elena said, her voice dripping with absolute venom.
She pulled the trigger three times in rapid succession, aiming perfectly for the unprotected gaps in his body armor.
The first bullet shattered Silas’s knee, dropping him to the ground in agonizing pain.
The second bullet tore through his shoulder, forcing him to drop the heavy shotgun.
The third bullet struck him directly in the throat, silencing his arrogant laughter forever.
Silas collapsed onto the expensive hardwood floor, choking on his own blood as the life left his eyes.
Elena didn't flinch; she kept her weapon trained on his lifeless body until she was absolutely sure he was dead.
Just seconds later, Julian burst through the destroyed front doors, screaming Elena’s name in pure panic.
He stopped dead in his tracks, taking in the chaotic, bloody scene before him.
Elena lowered the gun, turning around to pick up Isabella, who was thankfully unharmed.
Julian rushed forward, wrapping his arms around both of them, dropping to his knees on the floor.
He looked at the dead assassin, then looked up at his wife with absolute awe and reverence.
"You killed him," Julian breathed, his voice filled with overwhelming relief.
"No one touches my family," Elena stated fiercely, resting her forehead against his.
Two days later, Julian walked into the visiting room of the maximum-security federal penitentiary.
Victor Thorne sat on the other side of the bulletproof glass, wearing a bright orange jumpsuit, completely miserable.
Julian picked up the telephone receiver, staring at his former best friend with total disgust.
He didn't say a single word; he simply held up a glossy, high-resolution photograph of Silas’s dead body.
Victor’s arrogant face completely crumbled, his eyes wide with horror as tears streamed down his cheeks.

He slammed his fists against the glass, screaming in agony, finally realizing he had truly lost absolutely everything.
Julian hung up the phone, turned his back on the monster, and walked out into the bright sunlight.
