Chapter 5 - The Gift of Closure

Olivia walked slowly across the corridor and stopped three feet in front of the kneeling man.

"Get up, Daniel," Olivia said softly.

Daniel wiped his face with his wet sleeve, slowly standing up, refusing to meet her eyes out of sheer shame.

"Do you know why I was able to forgive you, Daniel?" Olivia asked, her voice rich with a peaceful, calm warmth.

Daniel looked up, his bloodshot eyes wide with confusion. "Forgive me? How... how could you ever forgive me?"

"Because if you hadn't left me six years ago," Olivia said gently, "I would still be trapped in that cold, loveless mansion. I would still be trying to please a mother-in-law who hated me. I would still be living a life built on status, expectations, and hollow appearances."

She stepped closer, looking into his eyes.

"When you signed those divorce papers and threw me out, I thought my life was over," Olivia continued. "I sat in that small townhome for three months, believing I was worthless. But then I realized that my value as a human being wasn't tied to my ability to give the West family an heir. I rebuilt my career. I started my own interior design firm. I learned to love myself."

A soft, warm light touched her eyes as she spoke of the present.

"And then I met Julian," Olivia murmured. "Julian didn't care about heirs or dynasty legacies. When I told him my medical history—the fake diagnosis your mother gave me—he didn't turn away. He brought me to his clinic. He brought me truth. He loved me when I was broken, Daniel. And together, we built a real family. A home built on trust, honesty, and unconditional love."

Daniel fresh tears fell down his cheeks, but this time, he nodded slowly, beginning to understand the depth of her words.

"You didn't break me, Daniel," Olivia whispered softly. "You just forced me to find the life I was actually meant to live. And for that... I don't hate you anymore."

Footsteps echoed down the corridor.

Julian Vance stepped around the corner, two tall security officers trailing closely behind him. Julian paused when he saw Daniel, his eyes narrowing slightly, but when he looked at Olivia's calm, peaceful face, his posture relaxed.

"Is everything alright, Olivia?" Julian asked gently.

"Everything is fine, sweetheart," Olivia replied, turning to smile at her husband.

Julian walked up to her, wrapping his arm around her waist, kissing her temple before looking down at Daniel.

"Your legal team reached out to my office this afternoon, Daniel," Julian said, his tone devoid of hostility. "They asked if I would consider delaying the foreclosure sale on your personal townhouse in the suburbs."

Daniel swallowed hard, nodding mutely. "It's... it's the only property I have left that isn't tied to the family firm."

Julian pulled a small set of brass keys from his pocket and held them out to Daniel.

"I bought the deed from the bank two hours ago," Julian said calmly. "The house is paid off in full. It's yours. Free and clear."

Daniel stared at the keys in shock. "Why... why would you do that for me after everything my family did?"

"Because Olivia asked me to," Julian replied simple and true. "She didn't want you on the street, Daniel. She wanted you to have a chance to rebuild your life from scratch—without your mother's money, without the corporate titles, and without the lies."

Daniel reached out with trembling fingers, taking the keys from Julian’s hand. He looked at Julian, seeing not an enemy or a rival, but a man of profound honor and strength—the man Olivia truly deserved.

"Thank you," Daniel choked out, his voice thick with genuine emotion. "Thank you both."

Olivia offered him one last, gentle smile. "Take care of yourself, Daniel. Build a life you can actually be proud of."

She took Julian's hand, interlock her fingers with his, and walked down the brightly lit corridor toward the gallery entrance, leaving Daniel alone in the quiet hallway.

Daniel stood there for a long time, holding the brass keys tightly in his fist, feeling the heavy, suffocating weight of six years of grief finally lift from his heart.
