Chapter 7 - The Foundation of Stone

Two months after the plea deal was finalized, Damian convened an emergency meeting of the Vance Global board of directors in the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of the Manhattan tower.

The twenty-two senior executives sat around the massive glass conference table in absolute silence. They had spent the past two months watching their stock fluctuate wildly, waiting to see if their billionaire CEO would lose his grip on the company amid the scandal.

Instead, Damian had spent the time restructuring the entire corporate charter.

He stood at the head of the table, his shirtsleeves rolled up, his expression entirely calm as he tossed a thick, leather-bound document in front of the lead senior partner.

“Effective immediately,” Damian began, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade, “Vance Global is divesting from three speculative real estate developments in the tri-state area.”

The senior partner gasped, leaning forward. “Damian—those developments represent a four-hundred-million-dollar projected return over the next fiscal year! You can’t just pull funding without board approval—”

“I don't need board approval to divest assets that were acquired through manipulated shell companies and fraudulent deeds,” Damian interrupted smoothly. “Every single dollar tied to the fraudulent accounts linked to Vivienne Sterling’s syndicate is being redirected.”

He tapped the leather-bound book with his index finger.

“We are launching the Sofia Carter Memorial Trust and Educational Foundation,” Damian announced, looking around the room at the stunned faces of his most powerful subordinates. “The foundation will be permanently endowed with five hundred million dollars from corporate reserves. It will provide full educational scholarships, housing grants, and legal protection programs for domestic workers and single parents across the country.”

Silence hung in the boardroom, thick enough to suffocate.

“Are you out of your mind?” another executive stammered, shaking his head in disbelief. “Wall Street will tear our stock to shreds! Shareholders will sue you personally for breach of fiduciary duty!”

Damian leaned forward, placing both hands flat on the glass table. His ice-blue eyes locked onto the dissenting executive with a terrifying intensity.

“Let them sue,” Damian said softly. “Let the market react however it wants. Vance Global is no longer built on hidden accounts, forged signatures, or the exploitation of people who cannot defend themselves. If this company cannot survive transparency and human decency, then it deserves to burn to the ground.”

No one spoke. No one raised an objection. For the first time in corporate history, Damian Vance had reminded every single person in the room who actually owned the empire.
