Chapter 6 - The Golden Lion

ONE YEAR LATER
The bright September sun shone over Boston Harbor, sparkling off the blue water and reflecting against the glass towers of the waterfront.
On the ground floor of the newly renovated Belmont Grand Hotel, a joyous crowd had gathered under a large white marquee. Hotel staff, executives, city officials, and reporters were laughing, sipping punch, and celebrating.
Above the entrance of a bright, beautiful glass-walled facility hung a polished brass sign:
THE ELSIE PARKER EARLY LEARNING CENTER
Standing near the ribbon-cutting area was Maya Parker, dressed in a sharp, tailored ivory suit, looking confident, professional, and radiantly happy.
Beside her stood Roman Bellini, wearing his signature charcoal suit, looking down at four-year-old Elsie.
Elsie wore a lovely red dress, white tights, and shiny black shoes. In her small hand, she proudly held a pair of oversized ceremonial golden scissors.
"Are you ready, Director Elsie?" Roman asked with a warm laugh, crouching down beside her.
"Yes, Mr. Roman!" Elsie cheered happily. "I'm gonna cut the big red string!"
The crowd clapped and cheered as Elsie snip-snagged the giant red ribbon in half. Flashbulbs exploded like lightning across the plaza.
Reporters surged forward, shouting questions.
"Ms. Parker! How does it feel to lead the new quality compliance department for Bellini Hospitality?" "Mr. Bellini! Is it true that Chun Enterprises and Bellini are expanding the joint venture into Europe next month?"
Roman stepped up to the microphone, pulling Maya and Elsie close to his side under the warm autumn sun.
"One year ago," Roman spoke into the microphones, his voice echoing powerfully across the harbor plaza, "a billion-dollar business transaction nearly collapsed due to deceit and greed. But it was saved by two things that money cannot buy: absolute integrity and the sharp eyes of a little girl."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause!
After the ceremony, Maya, Roman, and Elsie walked together down the quiet wooden boardwalk near the harbor edge, watching the silver gulls fly over the blue ocean.
Elsie was holding Roman’s hand on one side and her mother's hand on the other, swinging her small feet happily as they walked.
"Mr. Roman?" Elsie asked, looking up at the tall billionaire.
"Yes, Elsie?"
"Did you bring the lion paper today?"
Roman smiled, reaching into his inner coat pocket. He pulled out a small, exquisite gold coin minted specifically for the new foundation. On one side was the Bellini twin lions, and on the other side was a tiny red dragon holding a paintbrush.
Roman knelt down on the wooden pier and placed the shiny gold coin into Elsie’s palm.
"This one has the lion, Elsie," Roman whispered warmly. "And it will stay with you forever."
Elsie hugged the shiny coin against her chest, looking up at her mother with bright, dark, sparkling eyes.
"Mommy! Look! We have the lion!"
Maya looked down at her daughter, then up at Roman, her heart overflowing with a profound, unshakeable peace.

The cold storm of deceit, poverty, and fear had completely passed. Standing by the ocean with her daughter and the man who had given them a new life, Maya knew that their future was brighter than the sun shining over Boston Harbor.
Safe, victorious, and forever protected under the golden lion.
